Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer

Brian D. First is Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of SPARTA, responsible for business production and the marketing and communications efforts of the company. The Business and Customer Operations departments of SPARTA report to Mr. First consistent with SPARTA’s approach to delivering technology and operations service excellence in a customer-centric fashion. Mr. First is a member of the Underwriting and Risk Committees.

Prior to joining SPARTA as a member of the initial management team responsible for launching the company, Mr. First was President of the captive programs division at Discover Re. Mr. First began his insurance career at Great American Insurance Company and held positions of increasing responsibility in program and alternative risk underwriting and marketing at Meadowbrook Insurance Group and The Hartford, where he established the alternative markets department.

Mr. First has a bachelor's degree in Economics from Miami University. He is a member of the Captive Insurance Companies Association, Vermont Captive Insurance Association, and has been a captive insurance company board member. Mr. First has authored numerous articles and provided comment for industry publications on a broad range of topics in the alternative risk arena, and is a regular presenter at alternative risk conferences. His interests include competitive sports, fishing, hiking, reading, travel, and politics. The Business and Customer Operations departments of SPARTA report to Mr. First consistent with SPARTA’s approach to delivering technology and operations service excellence in a customer-centric fashion. Mr. First serves on the Board of Finance for the Town of Canton, CT.
