Martin R. Hughes is the Chief Underwriting Operations Officer of SPARTA, responsible for all process, controls, and output for the underwriting function of the company. Prior to joining SPARTA as part of the initial management team responsible for launching the company, Mr. Hughes was Vice President and Operations Director for the captive programs division at Discover Re. Mr. Hughes began his career as an Underwriter for American Reinsurance (UK) Limited and later held positions of increasing responsibility as AVP of Underwriting for AIG (Europe), Underwriting Director for GE Warranty (Europe), Managing Director for Warrantech (Europe) PLC and Senior Partner of Trafalgar Risk Consultants LLC.
Mr. Hughes holds an Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute with a concentration in advanced risk and loss layer modeling and operations management. His interests include finance, music, and historical home restoration.
